This isn’t just a barbell. It was a gift from one of the best coaches i have ever had.
Why is this such a good gift?
Because it is a tool. Think about the story of Jesus teaching a man to fish rather than giving him a fish.
Let’s think about your clients and what you are giving them. Are you giving them knowledge, or just their serving of fitness for the day?

I’d like to think knowledge is a big part of our service but experience tells me people have different expectations. Some want knowledge and some just want the fitness dujour and to move on.
Dutch, how do you deal with people like Ron is referring to? People that don’t care about knowledge/methodology, are paying customers, but just want a “good workout”? You know, the laxidasical client that likes the intensity, but doesn’t care enough to even do movements correctly.
ben,
you will always have those people. It’s tough to make everyone share your passion, however; If you create a culture where that crap isn’t accepted you can shift those peoples perspective.
give clients a little responsibility for their fellow clients movement and therefore their results. If they won’t do it right for themselves they may do better for someone else.
Hey Dutch,
Very excited about the program… And yes I have a few clients like that in my gym as of right now, but starting to shift their motives…
I think the most important thing when it comes to teaching your members is to remember that everybody needs to learn something, but not everything. Its getting to know your members and what their interests are. For example, All members need to know how to stretch and the basic importance of stretching, but most arent really interested in the physiology of how stretching works or even the mechanics of it making them better while others will.
Hi Dutch,
Thanks for the “fishing” tips you showed Ash and I yesterday, they were really helpful. I am always trying to improve my form, so I will definitely continue to practice snatches and cleans this way.
