Online Crossfit Programs

September 16, 2009

I am about to embark on a journey through a couple different websites and take a critical look at some Crossfit style programs online. Why do i say style? Well the only true crossfit program is posted daily on Crossfit.com. No matter who you are, you can’t argue this fact. Crossfit will always be what is posted on that site. You may feel there are better ways to become fit but that will never change what crossfit is.

As we are about to see there are many different approaches to to maximizing work capacity across broad time and modal domains. They range from strength based programs (cathletics.com) to individualized programs that are constantly changing in response to the athletes needs.
It will be very interesting for me to dig into why these different programs are structured like they are. I am always open to suggestions so if you want my opinion on anything specific just let me know.

Also if you have any sites that are not listed below that you check regularly please let me know. No, i will not take a look at everyones programming unless you are willing to pay. I want you to learn, i don’t want to do it for you.

Here are the sites i am going to review:
Catalyst Athletics
MaxfitUSA
OPT
Crossfit Invictus
Crossfit Football
MEBB
Crossfit.com

CF Omaha. I think I read that their new programming is going to use undulating periodization on the strength work…should be interesting!

How bout crossfit central? Along with opt, they were mentioned in a recent crossfit journal as a centre of excellence for producing a number of athletes who placed well in the recent crossfit games.

How about my blog for programming (as helped out by Dutch and Gant Grimes) http://jayashman.com

Dutch, you speak wisely and I agree with you 100%. There is only one CrossFit, the rest are offshoots, affiliates and hybrid programs using CrossFit methods. Good blog and good luck.

Johnny Pain at http://www.greyskullelite.blogspot.com just resigned his CF affiliation, but his strength-based programming is pretty wicked. not to mention his truly simple-scary metcons (one example is 100 burpees for time. Who’s got sub-5:00? a hint: I don’t.)

Hi, I work out with CrossFit Asheville, and our programming coach Shanna just took your seminar. We’re benefiting already and it’s been less than a week. Thank you!

I think you should add to your list the routines programmed at Mountain Athlete. I don’t know if that program or its sister site “Military Athlete” are affiliates but they are definitely variations on CrossFit.

Dutch, what about the programming at CrossFit St. Pete’s ( http://stpetecrossfit.com/wordpress/ )? They seem to be VERY heavy towards the weights and seem to really be dialed in as well with their all around aspects.
