I’m Back!

July 7, 2009

I just wanted to let everyone I am back to civilization! It was awesome to be able to relax before the big weekend. I am currently hanging out at Catalyst Athletics with Greg and Aimee where i get the chance to train with Jolie. She is looking pretty unstoppable for the games this year.

Has everyone seen the setup for the games? Anyone have any thoughts as to what it could be???

5 events in the first day?? That sounds crazy! I would think one or some of those events will have to be incredibly short (like 1RM on a lift or movement or something). I would expect something where every time domain is hit. Everything last year was in the same domain…makes sense to me that they will test the long, the short, and everything in between. I think with 5 different events you’ll truly have to be well-rounded to excel. Wish I could be there to watch it all!

    Dave,
Its pretty lame that you won’t be there.

I can see it being pretty varied but how would a 30+ minute workout fit in with 4 others during the day. I am just not sure there is enough time to make it happen.

Damn right it’s lame! I’m literally going to be glued to my computer the whole weekend. That’s a good point about the time constraint, it will be interesting to see what happens. I am thinking (hoping) that the biggest upshot to having 5 workouts is that you guys will have to do a crazy variety of movements. How far out do you think the time domain on the workouts will go? Or should go? Do you think a 15-20 minute workout can give the same results (or accurately predict the results) of a longer 30+ workout?

I don’t think you can sub anything for the 30+ min test but i am not sure the results would be drastically different.
All I can do is wait…

Castro definitely implied something longer would be in the games and it sounded to me like he was targeting Josh Everett and the likes of yourself when he said that people who predominantly train short and heavy are going to be tested. – I could be reading into it too much thou.

Best of luck for the weekend Dutch and if you get a chance to have a beer with the Aussies take it :)

    Tuesday 090707

    21-18-15-12-9-6-3 rep rounds of:
    185 pound Front squat
    GHD Sit-up

Is an indicator of one of the Games Wod.

Good luck out there Dutch. We’re all rooting for you down here in my backyard in Laredo, Texas. Whatever it is, I’m sure you’re ready. By the way, I really liked your comment sometime before about training to be fit, and not training for the Games. Good luck again.

Since they changed the scoring from time based to a point system, I would think there may be a lift for max in there somewhere.

Good luck. I know no matter what the WOD’s are you will crush ‘em.

I’m thinking that the first WOD will obviously have the most people. It’ll either be a short time domain OR one in which you can put a ton of people in at once. Some kind of run? Or maybe just a bunch of body weight movements where equipment isn’t a limiting factor…

    Just a guess!

I could see the first day being shorter events, max lifts/short met-con, with the final on Sunday being some epic monster O-course thing. Leaving tonight for Aromas. All the best Dutch!

    just an idea,

do you think that the crazy front squat and ghd wod hinted the ridiculous hill?

cause the avg crossfitter is 185

and for that many reps of both could mimic the muscle patterns of that crazy hill?

    anyones thoughts?

that run actually looks pretty sweet. hell of a lot more interesting than a track, that’s for sure. i doubt i’d be saying that if i was standing on the bottom of one of those hills though…

I noticed a few DNF’s on the Games site. I hope all is OK.

The Games program looked brutal and on the verge of unsafe.

This years Games makes me question my ability to one day becoming competitive in CrossFit.

I do not mean any disrespect to the CrossFit organization, but do you feel the Games took things a little too far?
