So the last two days I have spent traveling a bit and got the chance to check out a couple drastically different situations. Here they are let me know what you think and what you can do to spread the word.
First situation is a very well equipped crossfit gym. Unfortunately you are not always allowed to do box jumps or drop weights due the the performances going on downstairs. Is it still crossfit? Fuck yea work with what you got.
Situation number 2: take a very well equipped traditional gym add 3 platforms bumpers and mirrors on 3 sides and Linda and what do you have? Is that crossfit? Fuck yea at least the early morning crew, and I mean early! Add in a bunch of motivated hard chargers and you certainly have crossfit.
Situation 3: out yourself in the middle of a globo gym and try to do Nicole…dodge the bicep curls, crunches, flys and trampoline class. Seriously! And what do you have ? Crossfit!
I will probably have more to say about each of these locations later this week. If you know where I am talking about in each situation post it here.
My heart goes out to you renegade crossfitters. Keep up the good fight. It will pay off.

Dutch, Great seminar Saturday, we had a lot of fun and learned a lot. Glad we got the opportunity to meet you. We hope to be up and running by June, so if you decide to visit your Long Island relatives you know you have a box to come hang at. You can critique our programming.
let’ see.. an excellent crossfit training seminar, with great folks, terrific coach, and some opera singing for the background music – oh yeah.. i’ll take it anyday
…
Dutch- Many thanks for the seminar on Saturday. It was a blast, and I certainly learned a ton. It’s always great to be able to meet and talk with someone who is so open to sharing his experiences, especially in such a constructive way. One of the main ways I think someone becomes a better crossfitter is to learn all you can about crossfit, and I definitely feel like I became a crossfitter after this weekend. It was great meeting you, and hopefully someday we can get you into the Black Box for a WOD.
LOL!!! Nice Dutch my guesses are CrossFit Black and Gold, CrossFit South Brooklyn and Team Harlem.
I am of course very interested in your opinion of Team Harlem but of course rate us all!!!!
I am waiting for your entire feedback!!!!
i’m curious where those places are! for a while i trained at a bodybuilding gym where guys would start flexing in the mirror under the pull-up bar if i dropped off it for more than 30 seconds… i’ve also trained on the second floor of a place and despite the noise restrictions, it was still totally possible! i’ve since moved to my garage and it. is. bliss.
I have a pretty good idea where at least one of those places might be..
Dutch,
It was great having you at SBK, everyone I talked to had a great time and really came away with a lot of valuable insights on CrossFit style training. For me, the biggest value of your seminar is the emphasis on making functional movement accessible to a “non-athletic” population. As affiliates, we’re really on the front lines of fitness and we need to realize that the majority of our clients will require appropriate scaling, programming and encouragement for them to be successful. I think your seminar is on point with getting that message across and there are a lot of people out there who can benefit from hearing it.
Keep up the great work,
Dutch
Great to meet you today. Thanks for taking the time to answer my questions. And thanks for the spot too.
Hope to see you again soon.
Ok, officially the places are, in order: Crossfit south brooklyn, crossfit black and gold, and team harlem (not an official affiliate….yet)
