I don’t know…

January 9, 2009

There is a freedom you realize when you say “I don’t know.” It helps you set your knowledge boundaries and really gives you perspective on what you know. Think about what you don’t know but want to and post it here. Then go find somewhere or someone that can help you KNOW.

The last time i said it was yesterday morning (probably not but this is a good example and kind of interesting. I actually say it alot). I was watching a documentary about debate and the kids were talking about a guy named Paulo Friere. Like you are thinking right now, i was like who the hell is that? A simple google search and i landed on Wikipedia. It turns out Friere helped shape modern pedagogy (the science of teaching). One of his major arguments put the teacher – student relationship at odds and argued that the student should be the teacher and the teacher the learner. This sounds great for someone like me who always clashed with my professors. He also wrote about the classroom as a democracy which i think would be pretty cool.
So, now i’m no expert but at least i was willing to learn a bit about what i didn’t know. Next time you say I don’t know, go find out!!

Going on the Road

January 7, 2009

I will be leaving Fort Worth for the next couple Months and headed out west again. I got an offer from a friend of mine that i could not pass up. Jon Welbourn of Crossfit Balboa invited me to stay with him for a couple weeks. How do you pass that up? I will be training, and working with him and Max Mormont as well as lifting at Coach Burgeners. I will also get another chance to work with Robb Wolf and Nicki Violetti of Crossfit Norcal. I encourage you to search out the trainers and athletes you look up to and spend time with them. You will learn something and it will make you better!

Some things to think about…

January 5, 2009

If Coach showed up at your gym today, would you be confident teaching his method to people in your gym?

I have thought about this many times and it always puts butterflies in my stomach. What is your first reaction to this question?

Post thoughts to comments.
